I've had to reload windows XP home edition and the associated drivers. However, after the install i am unable to access the internet because drivers associated with the ethernet card were not installed. It appears they don't come standard with the installation CD.

I obtained the chipset drivers and a couple other drivers from the Dell website but there is nothing about the ethernet controller. Feb 04, 2017 Dell Network / Ethernet Drivers Download by Dell, Inc. After you upgrade your computer to Windows 10, if your Dell Network / Ethernet Drivers are not working, you can fix the problem by updating the drivers.
Dell Dimension 2400 Ethernet Controller Driver Windows XpIf you still can't find the service tag, the download page for the Latitude D600 is here --> http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/latitude-d600 You should look at each of the entries to see whether it is something you need or want, but the following is my best estimate of the first 8 items in the list in my earlier post: 1. Notebook System Software (NSS) -- the second from the top in the 'System Utilities' category, release date6/13/2007 version 5.1.0, A25 2. Dell 2400 Ethernet Controller DriverChipset -- 'Intel-Driver' in the 'Chipset' category. You'll probably also need the other driver (O2Micro) if you use PCMCIA cards.3. Video Adapter -- 'ATI-Driver' in the 'Video' category 4. Network Interface Card(NIC) -- This one is more difficult because of the number of downloads in this category. Most of them are for wireless adapters (and you can see that Dell used different wireless adapters in different configurations of the D600). For your wired (Ethernet) adapter, the file to use seems to be the 'Broadcom - Driver' for the Broadcom 570X W2K/XP Gigabit Ethernet adapter. Confirm by looking in Device Manager that this is in fact the hardware that's installed in your laptop. I don't think you need the other Broadcom-related downloads. 5. AudioAdapter -- Easy, there's only one download in the 'Audio' section. 6. Modem -- If you have a modem (and not all configurations of the D600 will have one), confirm from Device Manager that it's aD480 MDC V.92 Modem and download the 'Conexant-Driver' in the 'Communications' category. You might want the diagnostic utility and the HTML manuals as well. 7. Wireless Network Card -- If you have a wireless network adapter, you'll have to figure out which one you have by looking in Device Manager. This is an instance where having the Service Tag would be a help, because that should automatically narrow the offerings to the downloads for your specific hardware. 8. Dell Optiplex 320 Ethernet Controller Driver Windows XpTouchpad, Pointer, Trackstick, Mice, and Keyboards -- The only thing that looks remotely like this for the D600 is in the 'Input' category, a driver forthe touchpad. If the Windows CD you used did not include service pack 3, use whichever of the following is applicable (XP 'Gold' means no service pack) (both sets of instructions from MS MVP PA Bear; the Google Groups link is the post from which the directions were copied):

All these replies urging us to go to a website and download an updated ethernet controller driver are useless because you can't even access the internet without the ethernet controller, unless you have a second PC already hooked up to work with the internet.Go to the support Website :
Eg.
Then make a copy of the ethernet driver, and then copy it onto the original PC to get it acces the intenet. Most people may have to go to a computer repair store and ask if they can buy the ethernet controller driver for their OS and PC on a CD or flashdrive, or instead, but an external Ehternet controller device and connect it to your PC via USB.
A few words of thanks would be greatly appreciated. Add comment

If you have a usb connector you can use that.Once its recognized as hardware to install you'll be able to connect to the internet & look for your drivers. I had a similar situation and was able to find all xp drivers except the ethernet for gateway. At the moment I don't need it though. It takes a while to make it show up on your pc, but in your case im sure you'll be fine trying that out

Guys,I did some digging, and the ethernet controller is not a device, there is an adapter (probably wireless) that needs a driver. Lavalys' program Everest will tell you who makes the wireless adapter in your pc. If you can figure out who makes the wireless adapter on your own just install the drivers for it. Remember an 'ethernet controller' is not a device, it is a general useless description of a problem.
